Crafting Memories with Leather

At just 10 years old, Juliana Maida launched her venture, Homemaida’s, in 2019. While rummaging through her father's Houston store, Maida's Belts and Buckles, she discovered a large bag of scrap leather that had been stored for years from the production of belts and other leather goods. Intrigued by the possibilities, Juliana asked her dad if she could take some of the leather home. Without hesitation, Jason Maida helped her select a variety of her favorite colors and textures, igniting Juliana's creativity.

After months of experimenting with various types of art using leather scraps, Juliana, with her mother's help, crafted a selection of beautiful cards for family and friends. The positive response to her cards inspired her to further explore her creativity in design. In 2020, she participated in her first show alongside her dad in Round Top, Texas. Today, Juliana is continuing the family tradition of leatherwork through an ongoing apprenticeship under her father's guidance, honing her skills while expanding her repertoire.

In addition to leather work, Juliana is also a dedicated painting student under the mentorship of Houston artist Charles Darnell. While enjoying all forms of painting such as watercolors and acrylics, her focus is on oil painting with various subjects from landscapes to still-life. Juliana has incorporated her love of painting with new pieces and designs in her collection. She is also now offering fun hand painted custom banners for special occasions and corporate events. She plans to continue to expand her brand with new products, designs and services.
